Ryder Cup & Trophies

Two separate ways to crown a champion.

Free to play — both systems, no paywall

The Trophy System and the Ryder Cup are independent features — not one leading into the other. Run a points race for your crew's season or a single trip, run a standalone Ryder Cup weekend, or use both. Neither one requires the other.

System One

The Trophy System

Tracks points and standings, then crowns a champion at the end. It has nothing to do with the Ryder Cup — set it up for your crew's season, or scope it down to a single trip.

Choose the window — a season, or a single trip

Points accumulate automatically as rounds get played. You decide the scope: every round your crew plays over a full season, or just the rounds from one trip you want to run as its own competition.

  • Run it across a season — a summer, a school year, a full calendar year
  • Or scope it to a single trip — every round of that trip feeds the points race, and a champion is crowned when the trip ends
  • Points awarded per round based on finish, format, and field size
  • A live standings table the whole crew can check anytime
  • Optional best-N-of-M scoring, so one bad round doesn't sink it
Good to know

Runs inside a crew

A trophy system sits inside a crew and pulls from whichever rounds you choose — every casual round in a season, or just the rounds from a single trip you've set up as a trophy trip.

A history worth keeping

Winning should mean something beyond bragging rights in the crew chat — TrueLie keeps the record so it's still there next year.

  • A digital trophy case in the crew, showing every past champion
  • Recaps for each season or trip — final standings, best round, biggest comeback
  • Custom trophy names, so the crew's actual traditions carry over year to year
  • If your crew also runs a Ryder Cup, its results can be logged in the same case — tracked as its own separate title, not part of the points race
Design note

Built for rivalry

The trophy case is meant to be checked, and argued about, in the crew chat — last year's champion defending the title is part of the point.

At the end of a season or trip, TrueLie can auto-generate a Memory Card — a shareable recap of the standings, best rounds, and highlights. The trophy case itself is free; the auto-generated recap is part of Settling Up.

System Two

The Ryder Cup

A completely separate format — team vs. team golf, built from formats like match play, best ball, alternate shot, scramble, and Vegas. It doesn't depend on the trophy system, and the trophy system doesn't depend on it.

A full team event, built from five formats

The Ryder Cup splits the crew into two teams and runs a multi-session event, with points building toward a final score. Every session can be set to any of five formats:

  • Match Play: head-to-head or team vs. team, hole by hole
  • Best Ball: better ball of the pair counts as the team's score
  • Alternate Shot: partners share one ball, alternating every shot
  • Scramble: the team plays from its best drive, together, all the way in
  • Vegas: combined two-digit team scores decide who wins the hole

A typical weekend runs several sessions across these formats, usually closing with singles match play on the final day. Each match win is worth one point toward the team total — first team past the target wins.

Two ways to use it

Standalone, or the whole trip

Run it as a one-time event — pick a weekend with your crew and go. Or set an entire trip up as a Ryder Cup from the start, with a different session assigned to each day. See the Trips page for building it in from day one.

However you use it, a running team score is visible to everyone the whole time — points ticking up live as each match closes out.

Two captains, fair teams

Team-building is part of the fun — TrueLie supports the pageantry of picking teams along with a fair, automatic option for crews who'd rather skip the drama.

  • Two captains are assigned or vote-picked by the crew
  • Captains draft their teams live, in a snake order, right in the app
  • Or skip the draft — auto-balance teams by handicap so it's competitive either way
  • Captains set the pairings for each session — who plays foursomes, who sits, who anchors singles
Design note

Independent of the trophy system

Captains, the draft, and Ryder Cup results are entirely separate from the trophy system's points and standings. Winning the Ryder Cup doesn't affect the trophy case, and vice versa — unless your crew decides to log both as part of the same tradition.
